1972 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV

Another old friend returns to Hairpin!

My love for these lovely 105 Series Bertone Coupe’s is well-known, indeed I’ve owned my own beautiful 1750 Series One example since 1997. Even at today’s stronger values I think they deliver great Italian style and are a great drive when well sorted. As we all know though the name Alfa Romeo will never be associated with robust build quality, consequently finding a good one of these is never easy.

This original UK supplied Cava beige example is exactly what one would hope to discover. It has a full history from new with just 31,000 miles covered in the hands of four owners and remains in largely original and superb unmodified condition throughout.

Remarkably, the original service book and invoices accompany the Alfa and so we can confirm that it was supplied when new by Alfa dealer Hamilton Brothers of Paisley on the 1st of May 1972 to first owner Mr Seve Barbieri. Mr Barbieri obviously loved his Alfa as he cherished it until March 2005, only selling it as age and ill health brought an end to his driving days. He used the car sparingly, covering only 22,751 miles during his 33 years of ownership, however he looked after it and maintained it well as the many service invoices on file, stamps in the service book and the amazing original order displayed today confirms.

The second owner, a resident of Dundee living close to the original owner continued to diligently maintain the Alfa and use it sparingly, again this is confirmed in the history file until it passed to the third London based owner in July 2014. This owner, a Hairpin customer is a consummate enthusiast of unmessed about with original cars and so this Alfa was perfect for his collection.

In early 2015 the car was offered at a London Classic Car Auction with still only 29,000 miles covered, at which point I bought it for the first time. It was clearly a fantastic original example that had not seen much recent use and following purchase I sent it to Alfa Supremo Ian Ellis for a full evaluation. An invoice for £10,000 on file details the work I carried out before selling it.

Since then the Alfa has enjoyed two further owners who have continued to maintain the car perfectly as detailed in many invoices on file. It has been used minimally on fine days only, the mileage rising to only 31,000 miles today.

So, a ‘reference’ original UK supplied example of the 2000 GTV with just 31,000 miles that drives perfectly. It comes with all original books, tools and a full service history from new. A special car and rare find indeed.
