1970 Mercedes 280SL ‘Pagoda’
It is hard to find a really good Pagoda that has been well restored and sorted by the right people and so I was very pleased to be able to buy this example last week from a good customer of Hairpin who has owned it since 2009. It has a perfect specification being a UK supplied right hand drive car with automatic transmission and hard/soft tops, finished in DB180 metallic silver with dark blue leather interior.
The car was restored in 2007 by the Mercedes dream team of Nigel Cooper for the body and paint, Roger Edwards Motors for the mechanical rebuild and Kevin OKeefe for the interior trim. These guys really know what they are doing with this model and the fabulous appearance and perfect taut driving characteristics of this Pagoda some 14 years after they completed their work speaks volumes.
This last owner must also be praised for being a great custodian, the car has been returned to Roger Edwards for all maintenance and servicing work on an at least annual basis, it has been carefully used in fine conditions only and well stored at other times in a dehumidified garage.
A lovely Pagoda that wants for nothing.
