Dave Russell - Classic Lightweight
SOLDDave Russell was born in Fulham however, his family moved to Slough during his childhood where he attended Slough grammar school until 1950. It was after school that Dave then went on to serve five-year apprenticeship with a local engineering company.
During the 1950s cycling was booming and bikes were the pre-eminent mode of transport, recreation, exercise and sport for so many people. With Dave’s passion for bicycles and engineering he was lucky enough to settle down and work with Ron Kitching, one of the post-War shapers and key figures of the UK cycle trade. After several years Dave moved onto Hobbs of Barbican and then some time later opened up his own shop in Slough to repair, build and sell bikes.
Dave Russell’s were built to order. Dave was an incredibly talented engineer having been certified to use Reynolds 531, 653 and 753 frames but it was his 753 qualification that he was particularly proud of due to the intensive nature go the qualification. Dave Russell bikes were designed and built in the best tradition of the Classic British Configuration and Dave’s shop was always a one man operation.
Showing lovely patina, this example is in extremely original condition where it still retains it’s original paint and decals. With no cracks or dents to the frame and the wheel set in very good condition it is ready for the road.
