1987 Porsche 911 Turbo
Ordered, built and delivered in 1987, during the height of Eighties excess, this UK supplied Guards Red and high spec Turbo would have been the biggest statement of success one could have possibly made.
Although perhaps even greater than the list price’s £51,000 statement was the premiums paid on the second hand market; a note in this car’s history file suggests that the second owner paid a whopping £100,000 for the privilege of beating the Porsche Factory’s waiting list in 1989, just as production was ending and the exotic car market was reaching its fatal peak.
Helping to justify that reputed six-figure price was the genuinely low odometer reading of just 7,000 miles, but low mileage wouldn’t save the Turbo’s value from plummeting during the renowned market crash just one year later. In what must have been a desperate hope for the market to one-day recover, the Porsche was placed into storage still having covered approximately just 8,000 miles.
An official Porsche Centre, Rivervale of Hove, bought the car in 1996 and performed a full, post-storage recommission to prepare this beautifully preserved car for stock. A third, enthusiastic lady owner was quick to snap up this particularly special 930 Turbo and, appreciating its incredible condition, entered it into a number of Porsche Concours events where it received many prestigious honours.
Owner number four came along just before the Millennium and it was from him that the car was acquired for the collection in 2002, one of the first and most enigmatic to be purchased for the collection. Since the 1996 mechanical refresh, this car has enjoyed full Porsche servicing and is still among the most original and low mileage examples extant.
Just 25,000 miles have been covered from new, detailed by a wealth of MOTs and the original stamped Porsche service book.
In excellent original order throughout with full history, books, tools and keys.
