1982 VW Golf GLI Cabriolet
As the Managing Director of the family’s successful commercial property business in Sutton Coldfield, Mrs Margaret Carr was in her mid-forties when she was registered as the first owner of this Mars Red VW Golf GLI. We read in the history file that the car was a birthday present, but don’t know whether this was self-bought or otherwise.
Nonetheless Mrs Carr was certainly one careful lady owner and treasured her brand new car. Living just four and a half miles from her offices, her brief commute on the perimeter of Sutton Park meant that the Golf accrued very few miles; a fact confirmed by the original service book.
It wasn’t until 2002 that Mrs Carr made the decision to part with the car in which only she had driven for the last 19 years, and it must have meant a lot to her. Testament to her care was the condition in which she’d kept it; presumably garaged, regularly maintained and having covered just over 15,000 miles from new.
From here it seems as though a Leicester-based used car dealer acquired the car from himself, to use recreationally in good weather. After three years, and not much more than a thousand miles, the GLI passed to a third and enthusiastic owner before two short-term owners in 2009 and 2010.
The car was sourced the car from a dealer in Sheffield, where the car had been since the third owner in 2005, and its remarkable unrestored and unmodified condition was certainly worth the expense for the delivery to Kent!
Arriving to us with just 23,217 miles on the clock, and still wearing its original factory paint, trim and hood, this GLI lived up to expectation and we feel you’ll be hard pressed to find a better one.
