Ferrari 1967 330 GTC
This is one of just 21 right hand drive 330 GTC’s made and it is the car exhibited at the 1967 Earls Court Motorshow, the first viewing for the British public of the then new GTC model. it is in the most fantastic original condition and has covered just 27,000 documented miles in the hands of six owners. Each has used and maintained the car carefully at all times as a result restoration has not been necessary.
Maranello Concessionaires ordered the car from the factory in March 1967 for delivery in early July of that year. Sera Blue was chosen as the most appropriate body colour with a contrasting grey hide interior, a combination that still works best on this elegant shape today. Documentation shows that delays in production meant that the car was only delivered with days to spare before the motor show with the GTC finally being despatched from Modena on 4th October ’67.
Following the show, the GTC was sold by Maranello Concessionaires to The British School Of Motoring, this being the second Ferrari ordered for their High Performance Course run by John Miles. Extensive correspondence in the history file between T H Wisdom of The BSM and Colonel Ronnie Hoare documents their ownership of the car with many letters back and forth with regard to the inevitable warranty issues along with invoices for regular servicing.
The BSM retained the GTC until June 1971 at which point it was purchased by dealers Sytner of Nottingham as indicated by the original buff logbook in the history file. At this point the mileage was 11,884 miles as proved by the first MOT certificate also present. Local enthusiast Herbert Hallam of Rutland purchased the car later that year and he obviously loved the car for he retained it for the rest of his life, his widow finally parting with the car in 1996. During this time the car was used sparingly, many MOT certificates for this period are on file indicating that the mileage rose to only 16,000 miles in Hallam’s ownership. During this time the car was maintained by Graypaul Ferrari and later by Bob Houghton, who has continued to maintain the car to this day.
In 1996 Ferrari dealer Paul Baber sold the car to John Nichols of the yacht design company Jon Bannenburg. Unfortunately he died shortly afterwards and Paul Baber once again was entrusted to sell the car, this time to Paul Ingliss, who retained the car for some time As before, the car was used very sparingly, the mileage rising to only 19,000 when Mr Richard Young bought the car in 2005, as a stablemate for his Daytona.
Mr Young always used Bob Houghton for maintenance work and a number of invoices on file show how fastidious he was, making sure the GTC was correct in all respects. Indeed, Bob Houghton were entrusted to sell the car to the last owner, he bought the car about a year ago to join his very select private collection. Bob Houghton fully checked and serviced the car prior to delivery and since then Rardley Motors have serviced the car, rebuilt the alternator and replaced petrol pipes and cam cover seals. The mileage has only risen to 27,000 miles in the hands of the last two owners.
The car is a testament to the diligence of each of the owners, the opportunity over the years to misuse and modify or to carry out needless restoration have fortunately been resisted and as a result we have a superb original car, it drives beautifully and all of the tautness and rightness of an original low mileage car that has never been apart apply here.
The car comes with the mentioned extensive file covering the cars history from new and original handbooks.
