Audi 1990 Quattro 20V
The Quattro really did create a sensation in the motoring world when it first appeared in 1980, the sheer speed and surefootedness astounded motoring journalists at the time and the Quattro continued to dominate the performance car world for the next decade. Indeed, this is the actual car that won The Performance Car Of The Year Award in Fast Lane magazine in January 1991. There was a concensus amongst the journalists that nothing came close to the Quattro’s overall range of abilities. As Fast Lane concluded the car will crawl around the M25 with no fuss but in the right hands it could win the RAC Rally.
As part of Audi UK’s press fleet this car featured extensively in many motoring journals of the time, copies of which come with the car. Documentation in the extensive history file indicates that the car was handed back to Audi from the Press Department on the 26th February 1991 and was sold to Audi dealer Ingrams of Ayr on the 26th February 1991. A bill of sale on file indicates that they already had the car sold to a Mr Robert Murray of Stirling. At this point, towards the end of production, these cars were very scarce.
Mr Murray kept the car until February 2000 and clearly looked after it fastidiously, there being a full history with stamps in the service book and all invoices from Audi dealer Camerons of Perth. When sold the car had covered 69,200 miles. The new owner was Mr Stewart Alexander of Bothwell, Glasgow, he retained the car until June 2008 as part of a small private collection, the car was carefully stored and regularly maintained but used minimally, indeed when he sold it the Audi had covered only an additional 3,710 miles bringing the total to 73,910.
In 2008 the last owner, a lifelong Quattro fanatic purchased the car, although he had another identical 20V he could not pass on the opportunity to buy an original press car with such good history. Since purchase he has used the car whilst maintaining it properly, indeed in the last year the mileage has increased to its current total of 83,000 miles.
The Quattro is in extremely good and very original order throughout, it comes with a full book pack including stamped service book. In addition, there is a substantial history file with all service invoices, all past and current MOT certificates and much correspondence. The car has just been fully checked over and serviced by Dialynx, the UK’s leading Quattro specialist.
