1990 BMW Z1

A lovely example of the clever and innovative Z1 that no one believed BMW would put into production! The car has covered just 18,000 miles in the hands of three owners and remains in very good original condition throughout.

The Z1 was in very high demand and consequently the limited supply destined for the UK market sold out long before the cars were produced. Since all Z1's were made in left hand drive a few determined British enthusiasts ordered cars directly from BMW dealers in Germany or directly from the factory if they had connections. This example was ordered directly from the factory by a Mr G James, he chose the popular colours of Henna Red with black interior. The P.D.I was completed at the factory prior to delivery to Mr James in March 1990. The running in service was carried out by BMW dealer Alec Norman, on the 6th April 1990 at 1,179 miles. Mr James enjoyed the car over the summer of 1990 covering 5,897 miles before selling it to a Mr Cannon in February 1991.

Mr Cannon retained the car until June 2009 and used it very sparingly, the mileage rising to just over 7,000 miles during his 18 year tenure. In 2009 the car was offered for sale by BMW main dealer, Wood of Bournemouth. It is extremely unusual for a main dealer to offer a car of this age and is a good indication of the fine order of the car at this time. Mr Cannon may not have used the Z1 much but he clearly took great care of it, Woods advert describing the car as a fantastic example.

The car was purchased from Wood by the last owner in 2009. He has continued to look after the car well whilst enjoying it on dry summer roads in the New Forest. The mileage has increased to 18,000 miles in the last six years of ownership and the car has been well maintained, a local garage carrying out annual servicing and MOT inspections whilst Scotthall, the local BMW dealer, have been entrusted with major service work.

The Z1 is a fine very original example and is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner. It comes with all documentation and books together with tools and other originally supplied parts. The design has stood the test of time well, it still looks radical for its time and has such exquisite detail from the drop down doors to the motorcycle like dashboard dials and body colour seat backs.
